A Dynamic Duo: New Years Nuthatches

White-breasted (above) and red-breasted (below) nuthatches at my Mom's dining room window feeding station. This is the first red-breasted nuthatch I've ever seen, although the white-breasted one struck a more creative pose for me :) The reddish dot on its chest must be a reflection from the kitchen lights, as both pictures are taken through a window.

I hope all had a happy and safe New Year's Eve and Day, and I wish everyone luck with remembering to write "08" instead of "07"! It always takes me about a week to retrain myself :)

Sometimes you gotta grab the picture when you can. I have always loved the antics of the Nuthatch.

Very nice photos. I like the little red ones a lot. There is one here who is not much bigger than my thumb but a never tiring seeker of choice nuts or whatever at the woodpecker bar. They are all nice but the red one is the only one I have left here this winter.

Thanks for all your visits last year. I hope you and your family have a nice 2008.

Two great captures, or great looking birds.
I had to laugh at the 07-08 comment. I know for sure I'll be forgetting what year I'm in.

All the very best to you Ash.

Happy New Year!

For the first time, we have nuthatches hanging around our house this winter! I love your shots of them... they are funny to watch, no?

I must say Amy that you do tempt me to "raid" your Mom's bird feeders!

That first one is my favorite.
