April 1: Wake Robin (Purple or Red Trillium)

This trillium is also known as "Wake Robin" because it blooms about the time that robins return for the spring. Another common name is "Stinking Benjamin" because, yes, the flower does smell bad. One guide book I have describes the scent as "wet dog"!

Pretty flower, good lighting but I'll pass on the "wet dog" smell.

Did you get some Honkers this morning?

There were plenty of honkers of the Canadian variety, but very few snow geese left. However, pictures were taken of every kind of bird, and Dad even let me play with his "Big Boy Toys" He's trying to get me addicted to the big lenses :)

I think the most unusual sighting we had was four cormorants hanging out on a log!

I forgot to say ... there were more "quackers" out there than anything. We saw shovelers, ruddy ducks, ring-necked ducks, black ducks, mallards, and possibly widgeons. I'll have to sneak a few duck pics in here somewhere during "wildflower month" :)

Nice image.

That's cool that you had one of the fancy boxes high up at the game. I would much rather have a court side though ;)

Sounds like you had a great time, I'm glad.
