Honeymoon Catch-up

I guess now is as good a time as any to dig into my massive pile of photos from our honeymoon this July.

This is Summit Lake in Lassen Volcanic Park, with Lassen Peak in the background. Our first night of camping was spent in the edge of the trees to the right. Lets just say that this was a bad time to discover that we'd forgotten to pick up any bug spray. As the sun went down, I walked out along the lake and found this hidden view - you had no idea the mountain was back there from the campsite.

Yellowstone rocks in all sorts of ways ...

I have to admit, Yellowstone is one of my favorite places, if not THE favorite place, I have ever been. Because of my feelings, I have managed to finagle trips there AOAP (as often as possible). This recent trip was my 3rd visit, and it was great to share a place I love, with people that I love, people that had not been to visit before. Each time I visit, I leave feeling like a kid again, thrilled that nature has come up with things I could not have begun to imagine, and I think my travel mates felt the same way.


This trip, we had the luxury of more time to explore, and I used this opportunity to visit places a little more off the beaten path in the park, places I hadn't ever gotten to. One of these places was Harlequin Lake, a small body of water that lies on a ledge above the valley of the Madison River.

Here's the sunset from Harlequin Lake. Mom, Justin, and I took the short trek to Harlequin while Dad was busy with elk. The lake was very peaceful, but we were able to observe a number of ducks, and what was most likely a beaver. A great finish to our first foray into the park!

Ash & Sand United!

My dear friend Sandy is moving to Colorado all too soon, so we decided to make time to do some local photo exploration before she goes. Sandy arrived about 5:00 today, and within 15 minutes we were snapping away at the Riverfront Park in Columbia, PA. Here are some fruits of our labors:

After a dingy rainy day, we lucked out with a lull in the drizzle and a break in the clouds that let the late afternoon sun peak through.

This last photo looks far more apocalyptic than it did in reality, but I thought the effect was neat. Be sure to check out Sandy's photos, too!

Keeping up with Salty

I have been intending to post this photo ever since Salty shared his picture and the story behind it here.


I am keeping the picture small because it is badly out of focus. While, of course, I wish it were better quality, it remains a memento of a good afternoon spent with loved ones, and so I am quite happy with it :)

Susquehanna Sunburst

We are heading for New England this evening, so I will leave you all with a parting shot ...


I can't take credit for taking this picture, but I can for the editing. Justin's camera seems to get better sunburst effects than mine. I wasn't going for a realistic result, just something that looks interesting. I may do a blog from the road, but if not, I'll catch up with you all on Monday!
